Norway’s SMEs, Mid-Caps to benefit from €190m EIB-DNB green fund
The European Investment Bank (EIB) Group announced on Thursday it is coordinating with Norway’s DNB Bank ASA to provide NOK 2.2 billion (€190 million) under a green financing initiative. The announcement came in a time the EIB is celebrating its 50th anniversary of investments in Norway.
The funds will go for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-cap companies (Mid-Caps) in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, stemming from the Nordic region’s first green synthetic securitisation targeting 100 per cent climate-friendly investments.
The initiative, backed by the EU’s InvestEU Programme, mainly supports the leasing of zero-emission vehicles and other clean transport technologies in sectors like construction, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and advance the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality goal.
The region’s first green synthetic securitisation provides favourable financing terms and unlocks otherwise unavailable capital for climate-related projects. Norway’s adoption of the European Securitisation Regulation underscores its commitment to sustainable finance.
