Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) fined Telecom Egypt 20 million Egyptian pounds on Friday for a telecom infrastructure failure and the disconnection of phone and internet services in various locations across the country.
Moreover, to safeguard users’ rights in the event of service interruptions, NTRA instructed operators to compensate impacted customers in line with the public compensation guidelines that it had distributed to them.
Amid the malfunction occurrence, NTRA had formed a technical committee to investigate the causes and circumstances of the sudden breakdown and the areas affected by it.
Additionally, the committee will continue collaborating with internet service providers to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the extent to which the outage affected services and will take appropriate measures to safeguard users’ rights.
NTRA is also set to take all the necessary precautions to guarantee that services are delivered without interruption and to prevent any network failures that could endanger users.
