Over 16,000 projects executed in Egypt between 2014-2019: minister
More than 16,000 development and service projects were carried out between July 2014 to December 2019 at a total cost of 2.2 trillion pounds, Minister of Planning Hala El-Saeed said on Monday.
Egypt’s minister revealed that 25,000 projects will have been implemented in the period between July 2014 and December 2021, at a total cost of 4 trillion pounds, according to Ahram Online on Monday.
El-Saeed said in the ‘Seven Years of Building’ report issued by the ministry on Monday that 9,000 projects are being implemented worth 2 trillion pounds.
The report tracks the implemented and ongoing projects in Egypt in the period from July 2014 to June 2021.
El-Saeed also said 4,446 projects have been either completed or are still ongoing in Upper Egypt at total cost of 296 billion pounds, including 2,343 projects that have already been finalised at total cost of 51 billion pounds.
In other provinces, El-Saeed said that 658 projects have been finalised at total cost of 18 billion pounds out of 1,498 projects at total cost of 182 billion pounds.
According to the report, the petroleum and mineral resources sector has seen the most projects at 326 with a total cost of 1.1 trillion pounds, including 97 projects that have been completed at total cost of 1 trillion pounds, and 229 ongoing projects with a total cost of 47 billion pounds during the financial year 2020/2021.
For electricity and renewable energy, the report showed that 538 projects were implemented with a total cost of 387 billion pounds, while 43 projects are ongoing with a total cost of 88 billion pounds.
On the other hand, 1,426 projects were implemented in the housing, utilities, and slum development sector with a total cost of 208 billion pounds, and 3,696 projects are ongoing with total cost of 830 billion pounds.
The transport sector witnessed the implementation of 531 projects with a total cost of 175 billion pounds, while 146 projects are ongoing with a total cost of 478 billion pounds.
Also, 146 projects were implemented in the manufacturing and trade sector with a total cost of 29 billion pounds, with 61 ongoing projects worth 13.5 billion pounds.
For the health and education sectors, the report showed that they witnessed the implementation of 4,660 projects with total cost of 46 billion, and 846 ongoing projects with total cost of 100 billion pounds.
200 projects were implemented in higher education and scientific research at a total cost of 9 billion pounds, with 338 ongoing projects worth 55 billion pounds.
For the irrigation and agriculture sectors, 1,314 projects have been implemented with a total cost of 38 billion pounds, with 338 ongoing projects worth 75 billion pounds.
According to the report, Port Said province has seen the most projects in the period between July 2018 and June 2021, with total projects reaching 270 at a cost of 357 billion pounds.
Cairo comes second with 1,204 projects worth 343 billion pounds, followed by Giza with 685 projects worth 242 billion pounds, and Alexandria with 410 projects at a total cost of 134 billion pounds.
El-Saeed stressed that Egypt pays significant attention to investment in national and development projects in all sectors to provide job opportunities for young people and decrease unemployment rates, thereby raising Egypt’s economic growth rates.
