Overseas Egypt T-bill holdings surge in November – c.bank
Overseas investors held 249.2 billion Egyptian pounds ($15.5 billion) worth of Egyptian treasury bills in November from 242.1 billion pounds in October, the central bank said on Tuesday.
State-owned banks’ investments in the government treasury bills reached nearly 300.9 billion pounds at the end of November from 313 billion pounds at the end of October, according to a recent bulletin by the central bank.
Investments of private-sector and specialised banks in T-bills registered around 293.9 billion pounds and 24.3 billion pounds, respectively.
Foreign banks operating in Egypt had made investments in T-bills worth 33.1 billion pounds in November, compared with 32.1 billion pounds in October, the bulletin added.
Existing balances of financial institutions’ investments in T-bills slightly reached 1.471 trillion pounds at the end of November, up from 1.452 trillion pounds at the end of October.
