OVERVIEW – Egypt offers incentives to boost domestic steel sheet production
Egypt’s ministry of industry has announced on Sunday a package of new incentives aimed at expanding local production of cold-rolled, galvanised, and colour-coated steel sheets, a core input for several major manufacturing sectors.
The ministry said the incentives include:
- Competitive pricing for industrial land allocated to new projects.
- Priority in land allocation for investors entering the sector.
- Flexible payment terms linked to project implementation timelines.
- Low-interest loans to finance production lines and working capital.
- Operating licenses issued within 24 hours through the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) once requirements are met.
- Immediate access to utilities, including electricity, water, gas, roads, and telecommunications.
- Priority for local sheet metal producers in supplying materials for national projects.
The initiative is part of Egypt’s strategy to localise industrial inputs, reduce import dependence, and strengthen the country’s manufacturing base. Steel sheet products are widely used in home appliances, automotive manufacturing, medical equipment, packaging, construction, agriculture, and furniture industries.
The ministry called on serious investors to take advantage of what it described as unprecedented incentives, saying the policy aims to boost both industrial output and economic growth.
