The Egyptian exports of pharmaceuticals unexpectedly hiked to reach EGP 1.7 billion in 2012, up by 17%; compared to EGP 1.4 billion in 2011.
The exports of cosmetics to the global market also soared by 18% in 2012, recording EGP 3.6 billion; compared to EGP 3 billion in 2011, according to sources in the Foreign Trade sector to “Amwal Al Ghad”.
The exports of the medical supplies went up by 11% to EGP 4.3 billion, compared to EGP 3.8 billion in 2011.
For his part, Dr Gamal Ezz El Din, Board Chairman of Medical Global Company, stated that the rise of the domestic demand on the pharmaceuticals may not face increase in the production of the companies operating in this sector due to the drug pricing locally, which doesn’t serve the targeted profit of the product.
