PM: coronavirus situation in France is improving, but crisis not over
The coronavirus situation in France is improving “slowly but surely,” its Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said on Sunday. However, he warned that the health crisis was far from over.
Philippe said there were signals that pressures on hospitals were easing, as the number of people in intensive care fell for several days in a row.
France, which has reported almost 20,000 deaths due to the coronavirus pandemic, has been in virtual lockdown for around five weeks. Yet, it is due to start easing some confinement measures as of May 11.
Philippe referred that an economic crisis was only just starting due to the outbreak, describing it as “brutal.”
