New polls released by American Research Group and Public Policy Polling show Rick Santorum ahead of Mitt Romney in Michigan. More specifically, Santorum leads by as much as 15 points in the PPP poll, and 6 points in the American Research Group poll.
Holding its primary on February 28, Michigan is seen as the “make-or-break” contest before heading into Super Tuesday the following week.
A loss in Michigan would be devastating for Romney, who grew up in The Wolverine State and where his father was a popular governor. It would also continue to cast doubt on Romney’s status as the inevitable Republican presidential nominee.
Santorum, on the other hand, is riding a wave of momentum following wins in Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota last week. It is expected Santorum will campaign hard for Michigan voters, with the focus on jobs and opportunities for every American.
