The Chamber of Commerce’s Poultry Division is negotiating with the Social Fund for Development (SFD) for receiving a loan worth EGP 50 million to finance the construction of abattoirs complex in Greater Cairo, said Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sayed, head of the Poultry Division at Cairo Chamber of Commerce.
The Division plans to establish 45 semi-automatic abattoirs, said El-Sayed, adding that these negotiations aim at bringing into effect the 7-year term protocol earlier signed with SFD in 2007.
He affirmed the importance of transferring 21,000 farms from residential areas to the desert, along with expanding in establishing abattoirs so as to support and promote the competitiveness of the Egyptian poultry industry in foreign markets.
The rate of poultry production rose highly to 2 million birds per day in summer, up from 1.2 million birds per day last winter and the prices of animal foods rose because of the high demand. The local production will meet the local consumption, he confirmed.
The Poultry Division is establishing an abattoirs complex in Katameya road on an area of 5 feddans (=5.19 acres) with an investment cost valued at EGP 100 million.
