Egypt President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential decree pardoning “some prisoners” on Sinai Liberation Day, 25 April, reported Al-Ahram’s Arabic site.
The decree includes the formation of a committee headed by the interior ministry aide responsible for prison facilities to decide on which prisoners are to be pardoned.
According to the decree, those eligible for pardon must have demonstrated that they are “trustworthy and not dangerous to public safety”.
Sinai Liberation Day marks the 1982 withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Sinai Peninsula.
