Presidents Of Egypt, Sudan Discuss Cooperative Ties

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi met with his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir in Cairo on Sunday to discuss means to expand cooperative ties between the two countries.

The two discussed “ways to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation, as well as recent developments in the Arab world and the Middle East,” Egyptian official news agency MENA reported.

In a press statement following the meeting, Egyptian president’ s spokesman Yasser Ali said “the two discussed enhancing and developing strategic relations between Egypt and Sudan and expanding strategic partnership for the interests of the two peoples.”

One of the major issues discussed is food security. The two sides talked about building Egyptian-supported farms in Sudan and expanding Egypt’s import of meat from Sudan, according to Ali.

The two governments have given directives to urgently complete and open the road linking Egypt to its southern neighbor Sudan to facilitate the passage of people and goods, the statement added.

Ways to develop industries, increase trade volumes and encourage investments also topped the agenda of the two presidents ‘ talks.

“The visiting Sudanese delegation, which is to stay here for two days, will issue with its Egyptian counterpart a mutual statement tomorrow,” Ali said.
