The production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, inched up 2.25%, recording 100.92 (primary) in February 2021 compared to 98.70 (Final) in January 2021.
In a statement issued by The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Thursday, the State’s body said the industrial activities that reported an index increase included pharmaceutical and chemical products that reached 114.36 in February 2021 compared to 99.66 in January, recording a 14.74% hike, due to a high demand prompted by need for medicines, detergents and disinfectants amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The record number for the non-metallic mineral products (brick-glass-cement) declined to 56.46 in February compared to 62.63 in January due to the stoppage of a main production line, the statement added.
