Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment, the Doha-based real estate developer, has completed more than 90% of the Qatar International Exhibition Center in Doha, and expects to deliver it by February 2013, an official told Zawya.
“Only the final touches are needed to declare the project complete before the official opening, forecasted to take place in the first quarter of next year,” the source said on condition of anonymity. The total cost of the project is USD 274.7 million. Chicago-based Helmut Jahn has designed it.
The project comprises five halls without pillars. The area of each hall area varies from 5,500 to 7,500 square meters.
“Qatar needs such centers as the existing ones cannot accommodate all the convention and exhibition events held through the year in Qatar,” said Taha Abdul Ghani, general manager of Inma, a distributor of plant, machinery and equipment.
“The new project is huge and will increase Qatar’s capacity to host global events,” he said.
