Egypt on Thursday marked a key step in its first nuclear power project as Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat attended a ceremony in Moscow to mark the transfer of the reactor pressure vessel for the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
The vessel, manufactured in Saint Petersburg, is one of the largest and most critical components of a nuclear reactor. It houses the reactor core and channels heat to steam generation systems, ensuring safe and efficient operations. Production took around 41 months, and the equipment is scheduled to arrive in Egypt within the first week of November.
Esmat said the project enjoys the full backing of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, underscoring its importance in meeting rising electricity demand, boosting clean energy capacity, and supporting Egypt’s economic growth and sustainable development goals.
He added that the plant reflects a strategic partnership with Russia and longstanding bilateral ties. Coordination between Egyptian and Russian teams is ongoing to keep construction on schedule, with a celebration planned once the vessel reaches the El-Dabaa site.
