Russia’s Novatek Baltic Sea LNG terminal on fire
Liquified Natural Gas terminal of Russia’s largest LNG producer, Novatek, caught fire on Sunday, Bloomberg reported on Sunday.
According to Reuters, the fire was caused by two explosions and that the fire has been contained.
There were no casualties in the port of Ust-Luga, according to Alexander Drozdenko, the Leningrad region governor.
Russian press; however, reported that two storage tanks and a pumping station have been damaged.
The reason behind the fire has not been announced yet, but Russian press reported drones and explosions in the area, according to local residents.
During the first half of 2023, Novatek processed 3.4 million tonnes of stable gas condensate at the complex, going up by 0.6 per cent from the same period the year before.
