S. Korea, ASEAN to launch bilateral trade dialogue

The South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) announced on Monday plans to launch the Korea-ASEAN Trade and Economic Think Tank Dialogue (Dialogue), proposed by Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol during the 25th Korea-ASEAN Summit held in Laos.

The Dialogue aims to strengthen economic cooperation between South Korea and the ten ASEAN countries. It will serve as a regular consultative channel involving major trade and economic research institutions from both regions.

Jointly organised by MOTIE and the ASEAN Secretariat, the Dialogue will involve regular research projects, forums, and seminars. The findings from these activities will be shared through high-level economic platforms such as the Senior Economic Officials Meeting and the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting.

MOTIE plans to hold the inaugural Dialogue meeting in Seoul during the first half of 2025, working closely with ASEAN to establish it as a key platform for economic cooperation between the two regions.
