The South Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA) reported 22,263 newly registered imported passenger vehicles on Wednesday, marking a 1.3 per cent rise from July. However, on an annual basis, sales were 4.7 per cent down from August 2023, when 23,350 vehicles were imported.
Cumulatively, the total number of imported vehicles registered as of August stands at 169,892, marking a 3.0 per cent decrease from 175,177 units during the same period last year, the report added.
The South Korean market for imported passenger vehicles saw strong demand in August, with BMW leading the way with 5,880 registrations. Other popular brands included Mercedes-Benz (5,286), Tesla (2,208), and Volkswagen (1,445).
Luxury brands like Lexus (1,355), Volvo (1,245), Audi (1,010), and Porsche (747) also performed well. Toyota (900), Land Rover (397), Ford (392), MINI (379), and Honda (272) rounded out the top 15.
Several other brands, including Cadillac (61), Peugeot (49), Bentley (40), Lamborghini (38), and Rolls-Royce (13), also recorded sales in August.
