Saudi Arabia has announced plans to build the Kingdom’s first opera house in the historic district of Diriyah, northwest of the capital Riyadh, with a total investment of $63.2 billion to open in 2028.
The Diriyah project will be constructed by Diriyah Company and operated by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC).
The opera house will be spread over 46,000 m² and can accommodate 3,500 people across four venues. It will also include a 2000-seat theatre for large-scale productions and headline artists.
The Royal Diriyah Opera House will contribute $7.2 billion to the kingdom’s GDP. It will create more than 178,000 jobs and aim to attract more than 50 million visits a year.
