The National Saudi Airline, Saudia, launched its debut direct and regular flight on Sunday from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to the UK’s Birmingham International Airport.
The flight is part of the Kingdom’s Air Connectivity Programme and is a step in Saudia’s strategy to expand its international network and strengthening connections between the Kingdom and other countries, according to the airline.
The inaugural flight took off to Birmingham from King Abdulaziz International Airport, with a ceremony at Al Fursan International Lounge to celebrate the launch.
The ceremony was attended by the British Council General to the Kingdom, Cecille El Beleidi, along with officials from the Air Connectivity Programme and Saudia Arabia. The flight was greeted with a water cannon salute during landing at Birmingham Airport.
