SCZONE signs 2 Japanese deals on green marine fuel

Egypt’s General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed on Tuesday two cooperation agreements in Tokyo on the sidelines of the 12th session of the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council and Investment Forum.

The first agreement was concluded between ITOCHU Corporation and Orascom Construction to design, develop, and operate integrated facilities to supply ships with ammonia as marine fuel at SCZONE’s Sokhna and East Port Said ports. The project aims to cut emissions and align with SCZONE’s strategy for sustainable energy in maritime transport.

A second deal was signed with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to cooperate on green hydrogen bunkering, focusing on knowledge-sharing, stimulating demand, and promoting clean energy applications in the shipping sector.
