Lawyer Gamal Abou Daif claims to file indictment to the general prosecutor Mahmoud Abdel Mageed against the Senior Commander Ahmed Shafiq; accusing him of squandering the public fund when he, as a civil aviation minister, cancelled the project of Ras Sudr airport.
In statements to “Amwal al ghad”, Abou Daif asserted that the senior commander sent a letter to the British ambassador John Sawers on October 7, 2002; informing him the cancellation of the project Ras Sudr airport, which the British Company “Malicorp” won to implement it by BOT system. This made the company resorts to the international arbitration as Egypt has been fined with $20 million.
He added that the British company would establish this project via the system of usufruct for 40 years, as it would bear its costs, almost EGP 232 million, and to be constructed on 3 phases as well the state would annually benefit about 5%.
Abou Daif said the state’s general orientation at that period was having no development in Sinai. This conformed to the Israeli side in order to turn Sinai to be a place for any future military process, which means that Ahmed Shafiq’s decision was for the Israeli side.
