Sheikh Mahmoud El-Tablawy dies at 86
Yesterday marks the death of Sheikh Mohamed Mahmoud El-Tablawy – head of the Egyptian syndicate for Quran reciters and learners – at the age of 86 at his home in Menoufiya Governorate at a long struggle with illness.
El-Tablawy was born on 14 November 1934 in Giza Governorate. He memorised the whole Quran when he was 9 and became a professional reciter by the age of 15.
He is also known as one of the most famous reciters who are invited to celebrate religious events and funeral ceremonies, but he stopped reading in recent years after his health deteriorated.
El-Tablawy had visited many countries in the course of his career, and had been honoured numerous times for his contributions and talent.
