SHEIN plans to establish factory in Mexico

Acquainted sources said SHEIN, the giant fast-fashion manufacturer, plans to establish a factory in Mexico, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

The factory’s location has not been decided yet, the sources said, while SHEIN declined to comment on the plan.

Marcelo Claure, chairman of SHEIN Latin America, however, asserted the online shopping platform is committed to localising its production.

The localisation strategy will facilitate “supporting local economies” and “expanding product variety” while shortening delivery times.

SHEIN was founded in China and has seized a considerable market share from other affordable fashion retailers since then.

The fashion manufacturer has been attacked for widespread allegations of its forced and underpaid labour practices.

SHEIN responded, saying it has “zero tolerance” for forced labour, adding its suppliers are obligated to follow the conventions of the International Labour Organisation.
