Shell Egypt reports strong gas potential in Deep West Delta

Shell Egypt has reported significant gas potential in the Deep West Delta, with ongoing studies and a planned four-dimensional seismic survey aimed at maximising opportunities. During the general assembly meeting of Rashid Petroleum and Burullus Gas, Chairwoman Dalia El-Gabry highlighted that Phase 10 of the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) project has been successfully completed, while Phase 11 is set to commence production in June. Furthermore, she outlined plans to fast-track the development of the West Mena gas discovery in North East Amreya, reinforcing efforts to enhance Mediterranean gas output.

Meanwhile, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi emphasised that the swift integration of new WDDM wells into production is crucial for increasing Egypt’s gas output. Notably, the project has already contributed 160 million cubic feet of gas and 2,000 barrels of condensates per day to the national grid.

In addition, Rashid Petroleum and Burullus Gas Chairman Mohamed Samir noted that drilling for Phase 11 began in mid-January, with the first two wells already completed. The phase is expected to yield 150 million cubic feet of gas and 1,500 barrels of condensates per day, with production anticipated in the third quarter. Moreover, the company aims to boost total output to 320 million cubic feet per day this fiscal year, marking a significant increase from the previous level of 222 million.
