Shell has approved the development of the Victory gas field in the British North Sea, which intends to increase the energy giant’s output in the ageing basin, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
The company completely owns the field, which is about 47 kilometres (29 miles) northwest of the Shetland Islands.
The Shetland Gas Plant will process the gas onshore before pipelining it to the UK mainland and connecting it to the National Grid at St Fergus.
The company estimated that when the Victory Field comes online in the middle of the decade, it will produce up to 25,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, or 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, according to Reuters citing the company’s statement.
The North Sea Transition Authority, Britain’s regulatory body, announced that it had given the field’s development permission.
