Sint Maarten, World Bank ink $10m water enhancement pact
The Government of Sint Maarten, the National Recovery Program Bureau and the World Bank, signed a $10 million agreement to enhance water quality and quantity in the country.
The initiative, bolstered by an additional $15 million in co-financing from the Government of the Netherlands, aims to upgrade the wastewater collection and treatment systems, addressing public health risks and protecting the environment.
Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina highlighted the significance of the project, noting its role in promoting sustainable development and improving living conditions for residents.
The project will expand and rehabilitate sewerage networks, upgrade the wastewater treatment plant, and include measures for environmental and social risk mitigation.
The improvements are expected to boost the island’s tourism economy by preserving coastal waters and natural assets.
