Sisi earmarks EGP10b to expand social protection
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is directing the government to the allocation of 10 billion Egyptian pounds annually to extend health insurance coverage to 8.5 million beneficiaries.
This is is part of broader efforts to enhance social protection programmes across Egypt. The beneficiaries will include individuals from the Takaful and Karama Programme (Solidarity and Dignity) (TKP) and irregular workers in the construction and building sectors.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, President al-Sisi emphasised the importance of including these vulnerable groups under the health insurance umbrella, reflecting his ongoing commitment to ensuring that all citizens have access to essential healthcare services. Additionally, the government has been instructed to explore the feasibility of expanding this coverage to include more categories of irregular workers in the near future.
