Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has decided on Sunday to double domestic spending on technology sector, highlighting the country’s concern to spur economic growth.
The budget for the Future Technology Pioneers presidential initiative will increase to 400 million Egyptian pounds ($22.7 million), about two times higher of the presidential spending for the previous year.
Sisi made these remarks during a speech at the graduation ceremony of Future Technology Pioneers initiative.
In 2015, the Egyptian president launched an initiative for future technology pioneers during the Cairo International Communications Convention and Exhibition Centre (CICC).
The Future Technology Pioneers initiative comprises 16,000 trainees in collaboration with major global institutions and companies. The first phase ended by training 732 participants, and the second phase will start soon with 2,000 participants for advanced technologies.
Egypt in the first three years of President Sisi in office witnessed strategic support for the ICT sector. He launched presidential initiatives in designing and manufacturing electronics, developing knowledge of young people and graduates about future technology, investments both internally and externally that provide thousands of job opportunities for young people.
