Sisi, King Abdullah hold Talks on Gaza, regional security, bilateral cooperation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Jordan’s King Abdullah II to Cairo on Sunday for high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional challenges, including the situation in Gaza.

The visit began at Cairo International Airport, where the king was received with a guard of honour and the playing of both nations’ national anthems. The leaders then held a bilateral meeting at Al-Ittihadia Palace, followed by expanded discussions with their delegations and a luncheon hosted by President El-Sisi.

According to the Egyptian presidency, the talks emphasised the “special fraternal relations” between Egypt and Jordan, with both sides committed to advancing cooperation to meet the interests of their peoples. King Abdullah praised Egypt’s role in promoting regional stability and reaffirmed Jordan’s dedication to deepening political and economic ties.

The leaders focused on developments in Gaza, calling for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, unrestricted humanitarian aid, and early reconstruction efforts. Both reaffirmed opposition to any displacement of Palestinians and highlighted the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only path to lasting peace in the Middle East.

Regional issues beyond Gaza were also discussed, with an emphasis on de-escalation, conflict resolution through peaceful means, respect for state sovereignty, and continued political consultation to support stability in the region.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of Egypt-Jordan relations and committed to further strengthening cooperation in political, economic, and social arenas, including preparations for the next session of the Egypt-Jordan Supreme Joint Committee.

At the conclusion of the visit, President El-Sisi personally accompanied King Abdullah to Cairo International Airport for his departure to Jordan.
