Sisi meets British MPs to boost bilateral relations

Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi met earlier Tuesday with a five-member British parliamentary delegation currently visiting the country, discussing the latest developments in Egyptian-British bilateral relations, the Egyptian presidency announced.

During his meeting with the British delegation led by Gerald Howarth — a member of the UK House of Commons and head of the Friends of Egypt in British parliament — president al-Sisi stated that he has followed the developments that took place following the Brexit referendum.

He also added that he was looking forward to cooperating with the new British cabinet led by PM Theresa May

The Egyptian President also discussed with the delegation economic bilateral relations, including the British ban of flights to Sharm El-Sheikh, according to presidency spokesperson Alaa Youssef.

The UK suspended air travel to the Red Sea resort last November after a Russian plane crashed above the Sinai Peninsula with all of its 224 passengers and crew killed.

England and Russia demanded tighter security measures in Egyptian airports before air flights and tourist traffic would be resumed.

The British delegation’s visit is slated to last five days.
