Sisi reviews Suez Canal readiness amid regional conflict

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Sunday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie to review the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict on the Suez Canal.

Chairman Rabie outlined the war’s effects on navigation and supply chains and detailed urgent measures taken to maintain 24-hour navigation services, including raising readiness across all authority facilities. President Sisi stressed the importance of full operational preparedness and strict adherence to safety procedures at all Canal sites.

The meeting also covered progress on key national maritime projects, including the Red Sea Shipyard, the luxury yacht factory, the Rezek fishing vessel programme, and the deep-sea fishing fleet, as well as efforts to build and sell marine tugs and manufacture river buses. The president instructed that all projects be completed on schedule while meeting the highest international standards for product and service quality.

In addition, Sisi reviewed digitalisation and technology integration at the Suez Canal Authority, including the expansion of electronic applications. He emphasised that digitalisation should streamline spending, ensure governance, and enhance operational efficiency. The president also called for cooperation with global companies, localisation of industry, and boosting external marketing to open new export markets.
