The Ministry of Insurance and Social Affairs plans to establish a resort for street children with cost of EGP 16 million, said Abdel Megid Hamouda development project manager.
The resort, which will be built on an area of 40 feddans (41.52 acres) in Sixth of October City, will provide housing for homeless children and enable them to participate in craft and professional workshops, he added.
The Ministry of Insurance and Social Affairs has allocated EGP one million for technical consultations for such project. A workshop will be held for the period from 17th to 22nd of November to present all the studies about street children carried out by all concerned bodies such as the Ministry of Interior, Save the Children Organization and National Center for Social and Criminological Research.
On the sidelines of a press conference, Hamouda noted that the workshop will focus on two points; the first is developing the 37 children care institutions in 20 governorates which are housing 1705 homeless children. The second point is discussing all the issues about establishing the resort in Sixth of October City.
The Minister of Insurance and Social Affairs Nagwa Khalil affirmed that the number of homeless children is increasing every day so there is an urgent need to fight such crisis. The main obstacle facing the Ministry is finding the required finance, she noted. If the idea of the resort proves to be successful, it will be executed in El-Marg, El-Obour and Borg El-Arab, she added.
