South Korea’s manufacturing sector experienced renewed contraction in December, according to the seasonally adjusted S&P Global Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI).
The PMI registered 49.0 in December, a decrease from 50.6 in November, signalling a deterioration in the sector’s health. This marks the third contraction in the past four months, though the decline remains slight.
A more significant decrease was observed in production levels during December, with output falling moderately at the close of 2024. This decline extends the current downturn in production, which has now persisted for four consecutive months.
