Spain wins FIFA Women’s World Cup for first time
Spanish women made history on Sunday after they secured their place as world champions and won the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time. Spain won the cup after beating England 1-0 in the championships’ final match.
The team walked out victorious against the reigning European champion with Olga Carmona, 23, scoring the only goal in the match.
Olga led her team to victory and scored the victory goal in the semi-final as well as against Sweden.
This edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup highlighted sports’ evolution and appreciation of women on multiple levels.
Not only did the tournament gain worldwide recognition, but it also witnessed Nouhaila Benzina who became the first woman to compete in the tournament while wearing a Hijab.
