Spain’s manufacturing sector ends ’24 on a high note – PMI

Spain’s manufacturing sector showed resilience in December, with the HCOB Spain Manufacturing PMI rising to 53.3, up from 53.1 in November. This marks the 11th consecutive month above the growth threshold of 50.

Key drivers of growth included concurrent rises in output and new orders, buoyed by strong domestic and international demand, particularly from Europe and North Africa.

Employment also expanded for the fourth straight month as firms responded to increased production needs.

While inflationary pressures persisted, input price rises remained below pandemic-era peaks. Competitive pressures led to a fourth consecutive monthly decline in output charges.

Adverse weather from November’s DANA flooding caused supply chain disruptions, leading firms to rely on existing inventories. Despite these challenges, optimism surged to its highest level since May 2024, with firms confident about macroeconomic improvements and new product launches in 2025.

Spain’s manufacturing sector remains a standout in Europe, showcasing strength and optimism despite broader economic challenges.
