Sri Lanka approves $750m supplementary budget

The Sri Lankan cabinet has approved a supplementary budget of 219.4 billion rupees ($750 million) to cover essential government expenses for the remainder of 2024.

Cabinet Spokesman and Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the supplementary budget will not exceed the approved overall expenditure limits and will not impact the maximum government debt ceiling.

The government will present a vote on account to parliament to cover government operations and debt servicing from January to April 2025. The 2025 budget proposal will be presented to parliament on Jan. 9, 2025, with the second reading on Feb. 17.
