Sri Lanka’s customs department collected more than 1.2 trillion rupees (around $4 billion) in revenue in the first seven months of 2025, surpassing its full‑year target, a spokesperson said Saturday.
Customs revenue in July alone reached a record 231 billion rupees (about $770 million), driven largely by taxes on vehicle imports, customs spokesperson Seevali Arukgoda said.
Taxes on more than 28,000 imported vehicles accounted for nearly 300 billion rupees ($1 billion) in revenue during the period, he said.
The government had set a 2025 customs revenue target of 2.115 trillion rupees, but collections have already exceeded that by 116 billion rupees.
