Sri Lanka’s economy expanded by 4.8 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, according to official data released by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) on Tuesday.
The country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant 2015 prices rose to Rs. 3.48 trillion during the January–March period, up from Rs. 3.32 trillion in the same quarter of 2024.
The industrial sector led the growth, posting a 9.7 per cent annual increase, followed by the services sector with 2.8 per cent. In contrast, agricultural activities contracted by 0.7 per cent.
