Sri Lanka’s exports decline in Sep. ’24

Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports fell 3.49 per cent in September 2024 compared to the previous year, totaling $937.95 million. The decline was mainly due to lower earnings from tea, rubber-based products, electronics, and seafood exports.

In contrast, services exports for September 2024 increased by 6.08 per cent to $329.89 million compared to the previous year, according to a provisional data from Sri Lank Customs on Tuesday.

As a result, the total exports for September 2024, including both merchandise and services, reached $1,267.84 million, a 1.17 per cent decline compared to the same period in 2023.

In September 2024, exports to FTA Partners (India and Pakistan) accounted for 8.4 per cent of total merchandise exports, declining by 17.13 per cent to $72.28 million compared to the same period in 2023.
