Starbucks launches new olive oil-infused coffee in Italy
World’s largest coffee chain, Starbucks has launched new Oleato line of olive oil-infused coffee drinks in 24 Italian branches on Wednesday and to be in the U.S. this spring before coming to the UK, Japan and Middle East later this year.
The initial Oleato lineup of drinks will infuse Starbucks arabica coffee deliciously infused with a spoonful of Partanna cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil, according to Starbucks’ statement on Tuesday.
Oleato drinks could also appeal to health-conscious consumers, Starbucks Chief Marketing Officer, Brady Brewer said, as studies have suggested that consuming olive oil can reduce inflammation and help heart health.
CEO Howard Schultz, who is set to part ways with the coffee business in April, came up with the idea that came from a trip he took to Italy in summer, in which he witnessed Sicilians drinking olive oil as a daily ritual.
Starbucks is among major U.S. businesses that have faced obstacles trying to expand into the Italian food and drinks market, with the coffee chain having around 20 stores across the country.
