Suez Canal chief, Danish envoy discuss Maersk operations, port expansion

Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie met on Wednesday with Denmark’s Ambassador to Cairo Lars Bo Møller and a Danish delegation in Ismailia to discuss future cooperation in the maritime sector, the authority said.

Rabie highlighted the canal’s longstanding partnership with Danish shipping giant Maersk, pointing to expansion works at the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said, due to open soon. He urged Maersk to gradually resume transits through the waterway, citing the company’s historic ties with the canal.

Ambassador Møller praised the SCA’s support for Maersk operations, including the terminal upgrade aimed at transforming East Port Said into a regional hub. He said the return of major shipping lines to the canal was inevitable, describing it as a vital gateway for global trade.

Rabie said the authority remained committed to developing logistics services and attracting new partnerships to maximise the canal’s strategic role in global supply chains.
