Suez Canal records $50.9bln revenues in 10 years
Egypt’s Suez Canal recorded the highest revenues in a decade in its history, reaching $50.9 billion in the period from 2013–2022, according to an official statement on Sunday.
The number of ships and vessels that crossed the canal during that period was 186,900. During the fiscal years 2021–2022, the canal recorded its highest yearly revenue of $7 billion.
In the first quarter of 2023, the Suez Canal recorded revenues of $2.30 billion, with a 35 percent year-on-year leap, the statement mentioned.
At the beginning of the year, the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, was expecting the canal’s revenues to hit $8.70 billion in 2023.
