Syria’s c. bank lifts freeze on most accounts

Syria’s central bank has on Monday instructed commercial banks to unfreeze most accounts, excluding those linked to individuals and companies associated with the former regime.

The decision aims to restore economic activity following a freeze imposed.

Depositors can now withdraw, transfer, or deposit funds, though banks must assess requests based on liquidity. Restrictions on accounts tied to Assad-affiliated entities remain in effect as authorities trace financial flows linked to the former government.
