The existing balances of treasury bills registered a monthly increase of EGP 10.1 billion (2.8%), registering EGP 373.3 billion at the end of last June, up from EGP 363.2 billion at the end of last May.
The Central Bank of Egypt’s (CBE) latest report showed that the investments of banks, excluding the specialized banks, registered a retreat of 58.5%, registering EGP 4.9 billion at the end of last June, down from EGP 11.9 billion at the end of last May.
The public sector banks’ investments rose by 10.6%, registering EGP 129.9 billion, compared to EGP 117.5 billion. The foreign banks’ investments surged by 6.7% as it registered EGP 16.5, compared to EGP 15.4 billion. The private sector bank’s investments rose by 4.4%, registering EGP 105.4 billion.
The foreign investments in treasury bills witnessed a slight increase of EGP 45 million, registering EGP 800 million at the end of June, up from EGP 755 million at the end of May.
