Clashes erupted on Saturday between supporters of rival presidential candidates Hamdeen Sabahi and Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in Alexandria.
Dozens of supporters of Nasserist Sabahi were rallying in the Mahatet El-Raml district of the city when they clashed El-Sisi supporters passing by the area, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.
Police dispersed the crowds using teargas.
Sabahi supporters later withdrew while El-Sisi supporters continued to rally at the spot where clashes had erupted.
On Wednesday, El-Sisi announced his resignation from his post as defence minister and from the army to run in the presidential race.
Sabahi is the only other candidate who has so far announced his intention to run.
Elections are expected to take place in the next few months.
