Employees at Telecom Egypt will organize a protest next Saturday in front of the Council of Ministers, demanding the resignation of the company’s board of directors and expressing their objection to the second phase of restructuring the salaries, which included senior managements.
The coalition of Telecom Egypt employees, the so-called Saving Telecom Egypt Group, Sons of Telecom Egypt, and the company’s independent Association, have declared that they will participate in the protests which will be held next Saturday, pointing out to the need of combating corruption in the company.
The demands of the employees include dismissing the board of directors, restructuring the salaries, and expanding the health insurance to cover both the employees and their families, in addition to forming a judicial commission to look into the files of corruption in the company.
Eng. Mohamed Abu Quraish, Chairman of the Independent Association of Telecom Egypt, emphasized that the company has received a number of complaints from different categories and groups of the employees listed in the second phase, adding that such complaints have been signed from all employees concerned. Moreover, a number of employees have requested collective transfer from administrative units of low-financial returns to units offering high-financial returns.
The ordinary general assembly of Telecom Egypt, has approved the cost required for restructuring the salaries, which amounted to EGP 243 million annually. This cost will be added to the total salaries, including what has been approved in the first phase, in addition to the other new costs related to meeting the demands of the workers and the amendments carried out based on the performance of the employees and the newly hired employees.
