Telecom Egypt seeks to handle the problem of the frequent theft of its copper cables by replacing them with fiber optic ones.
Eng. Mohamed Nawawy, CEO of Telecom Egypt, stated that updating the company’s infrastructure into fiber cables will contribute to minimize the occurrence of their theft due to their cheap value when sold as raw material, compared to the value of copper cables’ raw material.
In his statements to Amwal Al Ghad, Nawawy added that Telecom Egypt is preparing for starting the Broadband strategy organized by the Ministry for providing all governorates with an access to the internet by 2020. He noted that Telecom Egypt will cooperate with the Ministry to provide the infrastructure required for the strategy, in cooperation with the private sector.
He further explained that Telecom Egypt is looking forward to expand its Broadband internet services via its subsidiary TE Data, stressing that improving the infrastructure would be of benefit in this regard, given that there is a growing trend towards fixed and mobile internet.
