Tesla is set to produce half a million electric vehicles (EVs) every year in India, according to the Times of India on Thursday.
The company is discussing an investment proposal with the Indian government to set up a factory that will have the capacity to achieve the aforementioned number.
According to the report, Tesla, led by billionaire Elon Musk, is also considering using India as an export base to ship cars to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
The vehicles will start at a price at two million rupees ($24,400.66), the report added, this price is more than double India’s cheapest EV, MG Comet.
Tesla held discussion in May with Indian officials about incentives that the government offers for its cars and battery manufacturing.
