A delegation from The Elders, an independent group of former world leaders, visited Al-Arish General Hospital in Egypt’s North Sinai on Tuesday to inspect medical services provided to Palestinian patients evacuated from Gaza, the health ministry said.
The visit, organised by the Health and Population Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations, was led by former Irish president Mary Robinson and former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark, alongside senior UN officials including Elena Panova, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt.
The tour covered emergency wards, inpatient facilities and a psychological support unit for children. Patients and their families thanked Egypt for what they described as exceptional care.
Health ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar reiterated Egypt’s commitment to providing comprehensive medical and psychological support for the wounded from Gaza. He added that Egypt saves no effort in proving the highest quality of medical service to the Palestinian “brothers.”
Founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007, The Elders brings together former heads of state and other senior figures to address global challenges.
