Trade exchange between Egypt, US reaches $6.5bln in 2018: US Ambassador

The trade exchange between Egypt and U.S has reached $6.5 billion during 2018, according to Thomas Goldberger, Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in Egypt.

U.S. Charge d’Affaires  told Amwal Al Ghad on the side lines of the annual job fair “Sha3’lna”  organized by U.S. Embassy in Cairo that there are recent negotiations between the Egyptian and U.S sides discussing the mechanisms of signing a free trade agreement during the upcoming period.

He added that there are expectations of continued growth in terms of trade and investment between the two countries during the year 2019, in light of the increasing degree of interest of US companies in the Egyptian market, as reflected by recent visits of those companies and official US delegations to Cairo.

According to Egyptian government reports, US investments in Egypt mounted to $21.6 billion by the end of 2018.

The most prominent sectors to attract US investments in the coming period are the sectors of oil, energy, health, tourism, telecommunications and information technology.
